How To Keep Score

Definitions & Explanations
(Sample Game Below)

1. GAME (String) A game consists of ten boxes (frames). Each box consists of three balls, except when a player scores a strike or a spare, called “marks”.

2. STRIKE When all ten pins are knocked down with the first ball in a box it is a strike. The player shall be credited with ten pins plus the number of pins knocked down by the first two balls in the next box.

3. SPARE When all ten pins are knocked down by the first two balls in a box it is a spare. The player shall be credited with ten pins plus the number of pins knocked down by the first ball in the next box.

4. NO MARK When neither a strike nor a spare is made, the total number of pins knocked down by the three balls shall be the score for that box.

5. TWO CONSECUTIVE STRIKES Score as follows: a. Box in which first strike is made: 20 pins plus the number knocked down the the first ball rolled in the second following box. b. Box in which second strike is made: 10 pins plus the number knocked down by the first two balls in the next following box.

6. THREE CONSECUTIVE STRIKES Score as follows: a. Box in which first strike is made: 30 pins b. Box in which second strike is made: 20 pins plus the number knocked down by the first ball rolled in the second following box. c. Box in which third strike is made: 10 pins plus plus the number knocked down by the first two balls rolled in the second following box.

7. MARK IN BOX 10 Entitles the player to one or two extra set-ups as needed to complete the box and game.

You scored a spare filling your strike with 10 and total being 20, in your 9th box. To finish out the 10th box and your spare roll 1 ball and add it to your spare (10+8=18). Your game total is 120
